Today I am thankful for.....

Travelling Taxi drivers.

This morning I decided to sleep a bit later than usual as I went to bed really late last night. It was lovely ....but then I had to rush to get ready for school. Thank goodness I took a shower and washed my hair last night, so I basically just had to brush my teeth, get dressed and go! Unfortunately my usual bus ride would've taken too long so I had to take a taxi. Although I love taxi rides, I don't make a habit of using them due to the fact that I regard them as an unnecessary expense. Also, its a bit hard to communicate to the taxi drivers at times, seeing that their English aren't that good and explaining a destination, when I cant speak Korean either, can be a bit frustrating to us both. This morning, however, I had no choice - if I didn't want to be late, a taxi was the answer!!!

Huge was my surprise when my taxi driver spoke in fluent English to me. Without any hassle I could explain to him exactly where I wanted to go. And then the sweet man, who's name I cant pronounce nor spell, started a conversation with me. He asked me where I came from, and when I told him, he shared with me that he's been to my home country about 40 years ago. This is very uncommon because Koreans don't tend to go to South-Africa all that often. It turned out that he worked on a cargo ship for 6 years and basically travelled all around the world, up- and offloading fruit. And what's even more amazing is that he spend two full days in my beloved Cape-Town. Immediately we had a connection - we shared a love for SA. We chatted away until we reached our destination and sadly, I had to get out of the taxi. But when we said our goodbye's I was left with a strange sense of awe - how wonderful that in a city with millions of people and thousands of taxi drivers, I was destined to get in to the one driven by probably the only taxi driver in Korea that has been to South-Africa.
My dearest taxi driver isn't the only one that will be travelling. I just booked my trip to China today and in a months time, Ill be spending a week in lovely China land, walking on the great wall, sipping green tea in a tea ceremony and visiting oriental palaces and gardens. Which brings me to my second source of thankful joy - China travels.

Today I am thankful for.....

Friendship. 7 hours of non-stop heart-to-heart chat with a darling friend, replenished with tea, strawberry yogurt and cucumber-seaweed snacks.

The absolute satisfaction of teaching little Asian kids the beauty of English.

The beautiful brutality of new life.
A girl I know from school gave birth to a beautiful daughter on Friday. She posted the pictures on Facebook and at first I was shocked. Ive never really seen "birth" and blood does make me a little squeamish. But I couldn't help but stare at the pictures and how beautiful and absolute joyous it is to welcome a new little life into this wonderful world of ours.
(im not quite sure where I got this cute picture from)

Cream Puffs

Like most women, I am constantly waging a war against weight gain. I won’t describe myself as “fat” (oh, what terrible description of oneself) but I have to be careful about what I eat and I do have a few extra pounds that I’d love to kiss goodbye. For this reason, I have somewhat of a “love/hate” relationship with food…..especially when it comes to beautiful pastries and pretty cupcakes. I’m sure I must’ve been French in a previous live because little quaint bakeries with pretty little treats really makes me happy. I try to avoid them best I can....

Today however, I decided, I'm not going to feel a bit guilty about indulging in my favorite treat - cream puffs. I got up this morning, put on my sunglasses and walk about two kilometers to my favorite little Parisian bakery. Then I bought two lovely little baked treats and had them on my way back! You see, sometimes a girl has to give in to temptation. And what better temptation that a little cream puff!

I ♥ Moomin

Moomin use to be my favourite cartoon when I was a little girl. I still know the theme song of by heart and have lots of happy memories watching Moomin. Being from South-Africa, the original language which is Finnish, was changed to my mother-tongue, Afrikaans. This is a little fact I only found out recently and was surprised at my (slightly childish) disappointment that it wasn't Afrikaans all along. (haha). Its not showing in South-Africa anymore but I found these pictures on the net and all the happy memories came flooding back. My favourite was "Meme", the little red haired girl, which quoted "Possessions means worries and luggage bags one has to drag along". I wish I could watch it again!!!!!!

I ♥ Blossoms....

Its Spring! After an unusual long winter this year, spring is here, at last! Yippee!
To celebrate the sunny mornings, birdsong and happiness in the air, I added some pictures of my favourite part of spring... the blossoms!
(Isn't it magical how these tiny little flowers end up being peaches, apples, cherries...?)
