My mission....

On the corner of Roeland street, in Cape Town, is a beautiful little bookshop that comply to all my idealistic expectations of what a booskhop should be.

I often drive past it but today I decided to pay the shop a little visit ...and boy, am I glad I did!!!!

It was in this little shop, between shelves and tables stacked with books that I decided on my litery mission for 2012: to read 12 classics this year. One each month. Books that I always wanted to read but never got around too.

So my mission began today and I bought my first two books...

...which came wrapped in beautiful brown paper.

Initially I decided on Anna Karenina but unfortunately the last one sold out this weekend so while I am waiting for my order to arrive....

....I am going ahead and reading Flaubert's "Madam Bovary".
Like most of the books I have read/want to read, it was recommended by a friend. I make little lists at the back of my diary. I am such a nerd, I know!!!

Oh, and I got Dr.Seuss just for fun.

What classics have you/do you want to read?

A weekend in pictures # 8 :Italian delights

Gosh, I havent done one of these in ages. Sometimes taking pictures seems such a shlep when you are having fun. I promise that I will do these more though!

30 Things before Thirty # 3: Cruising

I'm not sure how much of a role my childhood impressions of "Titanic" played in this fantasy but I've always dreamt about a cruise on a luxury liner.

When the opportunity arose in the form of a groupon deal, 20 girlfriends and I grabbed it with both hands. So this past weekend we...

... set sail from Cape Town...

..and while our hair was dancing in the wind, we pretended that we were Rose.

We spend our days sunbathing, ...

...playing bingo,

and eating yummy food.

When the sun set, we drank yummy cocktails,

whilst watching shows in the Jazz lounge,

...and danced underneath the stars.

Lately,

I've been teaching again.
A new school with new kiddos and new challenges.

Slowely I'm learning about Geography and hearing aids, love, patience and how beautiful children's hearts can be.

Man, I love my job.

Roadtrippin

"oh, how wonderful the world is"

Bangers and mash

The nice thing about being seated at the "single" table of weddings, is that its so easy to make friends ....and all the better if those friends are from far-away places. One such a friend is Andy who lives in London. Knowing what it's like to travel by yourself, I took it upon myself to show my new friend my beloved Cape Town. He had only one night in the city so I planned to make most of it and show him everything.

It turned out that Andy's visit to Cape Town was actually more of a cultural experience for me than him. Instead of having a traditional South African meal like one would expect, Andy thought it wise to educate me on the ways of the English and so we had bangers and mash, drank beer and watched soccer (or “football” like they called it in England). Sounds dreadful? It was actually quite lovely.

Not being a soccer nor beer fan before, I didn't have an appreciation for bangers and mash either.

I always found bangers and mash lacking in the aesthetics department as it doesn’t exactly look like something I would like to eat....

(Andy assured me it was the absence of peas)
...but not even that stopped us from stuffing our faces with this yummy food.
And I have to admit that I kinda like it!

Thank you Andy for educating me on English pub culture....
....Oh, and convincing me to become an Arsenal fan.
